Children's Outpatients

If your child has been referred to see a specialist at the hospital, it is likely that they will be seen in the children’s outpatient department. They might also be seen for follow ups here after being discharged from hospital.

What we do

We aim to make visiting outpatients a positive experience. We see children in general clinics up to the age of 16 years and young people up to the age of 19 years in our specialist long term condition clinics.

We also offer a blood test service for children less than 1 year of age.

The clinics below are held in the Children’s Outpatient Department.

The rapid access clinic is for acutely ill children seen in the community and referred in by their GP. The clinic allows 48 hour access Monday to Friday to see a paediatric consultant.

Children's Day Area

The children's day area is part of the outpatient clinic and provides day care for children undergoing clinical procedures and medical tests. The team in the clinic manage this activity on a daily basis liaising with other departments (including medical physics) and parents. The clinic team send out appointments and make arrangements with families on the doctor's instruction to attend for their specific tests.

Referrals

Referrals to the children's outpatient department are taken from GPs.

If you are concerned about your child

If you are concerned about your child please contact your GP in the first instance. If your child has been seen in children’s clinic recently and you have an outstanding concern please ring the hospital's main switchboard on 01709 820000 and ask to speak to the secretary of the paediatrician you saw. If you are concerned your child has become very unwell please attend the Urgent and Emergency Care Centre at Rotherham Hospital or dial 999.
