What do we do?

We aim to make visiting outpatients a positive experience by welcoming and distracting children and preparing them to see the clinician. This may involve weighing and measuring children and taking any relevant specimens. The clinics below are held in the Children’s Outpatient Department.

Rapid Access Clinic

The rapid access clinic is for acutely ill children seen in the community and referred in by their GP. The clinic allows 48 hour access Monday to Friday to see a paediatric consultant.

Children's Day Area

The children's day area is part of the outpatient clinic and provides day care for children undergoing clinical procedures and medical tests. The team in the clinic manage this activity on a daily basis liaising with other departments (including medical physics) and parents. The clinic team send out appointments and make arrangements with families on the doctor's instruction to attend for their specific tests.

Referrals

Referrals to the Children's Outpatient Department are taken from GPs.
