Stay safe and well – drink safely

22 Dec 2015 15:50:44

We hope you all have a safe and healthy festive period and to help you stay feeling well, here are some top tips from our Lead Alcohol Liaison Nurse to bear in mind when drinking alcohol:

• Eat before drinking
• Buy smaller measures or lower % drinks
• Try and drink water or soft drinks in-between Alcoholic drinks
• Avoid mixing drinks and substances, including strong pain killers
• Take less money out, or leave cash cards at home – but please make sure you have enough money to get home safely
• Be aware of your ‘tipping point’. When is enough for you?
• Stay with friends or family and arrange or book transport as early as possible, without walking home
• Stay safe and enjoy Christmas

The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust’s Alcohol Liaison Service supports adults with an alcohol related problem, who have recently attended the Emergency Department or have been admitted to hospital. The service also sees and assesses patients who are currently under the care of a Specialist Consultant. The team offers comprehensive assessment and advice to help patients address their alcohol use, with safe and realistic options for safer alcohol consumption and completing abstinence. Where appropriate, patients are also offered community support, and continuation of detoxification in the community.
