The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust had been using its Patient Administration System (PAS) in the hospital for the past twenty-five years. Over time this system has become outdated, with the software and hardware no longer able to meet the demands of healthcare in the 21st century.
Here at the Trust we realised that there are many benefits to having a centralised electronic record for patients, which would help to further improve the quality and efficiency of patient care.
In 2009 Rotherham became one of the first NHS Trusts to go outside the National Programme for IT, deciding to create our own state of the art, patient-centred Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system, using the MEDITECH v6.0 system software. This is one of the most advanced systems of its kind in the world.
Following three years of intense development, the first phase of Rotherham Hospital’s EPR system has now gone live across most of the hospital, with the remaining functionality being phased in gradually.
