At Rotherham, we have a highly experienced and accomplished team of HIV specialist clinicians consisting of four consultants and 2 specialist nurses, who are passionate and dedicated to managing the care of people living with HIV.

HIV like most STIs in the early stages has no symptoms and this is why it is very important to regularly get tested and practice safe sex.

PEP (Post Exposure Prophylaxis)

If you think you have been exposed to HIV, then you may require PEP. PEP is only effective if taken within 72 hours of exposure, the sooner it is taken the better. If the clinic is not open PEP is available at A&E.

PREP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis)

From Winter 2020 PREP should be widely available on the NHS in England. Unfortunately, there may be some delay in being the case in all areas, so please refer to the links below for websites where PREP is safely available and helpful resources.

At the clinic, we will be happy to advise you about PREP and support you to use the treatment safely and provide any necessary monitoring.

Vaccination

In sexual health, we believe prevention is better than cure and offer vaccination to groups thought to be at higher risk to prevent infection.

Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to prevent diseases, they protect a person from infection for several years.

At the moment we can offer 3 different vaccinations:

Hepatitis B – for men who have sex with men (MSM) and people that have had more than 10 sexual partners in 12 months

Hepatitis A – for MSM

HPV – for MSM, trans men and trans women up to the ages of 45.
