On 5 July
1948, Aneurin Bevan, the then Minister for Health, launched the NHS in Park
Hospital, Manchester (now Trafford General Hospital). Today, the 70th birthday
of the NHS, colleagues throughout the Trust and across the country have been
celebrating this much loved institution. This article summarises some of the events and activities that have been taking
place at the Trust to mark the occasion.
Wednesday colleagues attended the NHS70 Celebration event hosted by the Rotherham CCG at
New York Stadium. The event
was combined with the CCG's AGM and provided a great opportunity to mark this
special occasion with local partners and share our Operational Plan, successes
and some of our history.

in the celebrations yesterday morning were parents Hannah and Joe Laycock, on the
birth of their beautiful baby girl, Blossom. Born today on the 70th birthday of
the NHS, at 10.52am, weighing 8lbs 2oz! Congratulations she is wonderful!
time, our Chief Executive, Louise Barnett and long-serving colleagues,
Julie Allison, Senior Booking Clerk and Christina Oxer, Domestic Assistant (pictured
below) represented the Trust at a special NHS70 Celebration Event at
Westminster Abbey. They were joined by NHS colleagues from across the country
including former NHS colleague Olive Belfield, a 1948 Nurse who spoke
about her memories of working for the NHS.
the afternoon, both hospital and community colleagues have hosted NHS7Tea
parties to celebrate NHS70 and raise funds for our Dr Ted's Children's Appeal!
There was an amazing turn out and some wonderful cakes provided by colleagues,
their families and ASDA – who very kindly supported our event with donations of
cakes, balloons, stickers and more! The
Mayor and Mayoress of Rotherham, Cllr Alan and Sandra Buckley also attended
this event, giving a special toast to the NHS and cutting the celebration

fantastic £364.13 for the Dr Ted's Children's Appeal!

visit our Community Hospital, who also hosted a special NHS70 tea party for
their patients and families.

Community Nurse and Solomon Muzulu, Consultant (pictured below) represented the Trust at another NHS70 Celebration at York Minster. They again
were joined by NHS colleagues from across the country to mark this very
special 70th Anniversary of the NHS.
