The Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity’s first official Run for All Sheffield 10K team pounded the streets of the Steel City to raise more than £2,000 to help benefit patients and their families in Rotherham.

Colleagues from The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust (TRFT) teamed up with members of the public to take part in the event on Sunday 24 September to raise money for the charity’s Purple Butterfly Appeal.

All the money raised will help the charity fund a fourth Purple Butterfly room at Rotherham Hospital. The £75,000 purpose-built rooms offer privacy and dignity to patients nearing the end of their lives, and their families.

Gabby Atmarow, Chair of the Charitable Funds Committee, said: “We have not had an official team participating in the Sheffield 10K before so we were incredibly proud to see 10 colleagues and members of the public running for the Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity this year.

“We are really grateful for all the money they have raised for our Purple Butterfly Appeal and to everyone who sponsored them. Your support really helped spur them on. All the money raised will make a huge difference, creating a home from home for our patients when time really is most precious.”

The Run for All Sheffield 10K route began at Arundel Gate and took runners on a journey along Charter Row and along Ecclesall Road, before skirting the edges of Endcliffe Park. It continued along Riverdale Road, Endcliffe Vale Road, close to the Botanical Gardens, then travelled down Brocco Bank and back to an exhilarating city centre finish.

The team included TRFT colleagues Liza Broughton, Celia Newton, Liz Hayter, Lisa Longden, Joanne Clough and Gaynor Ibbs plus public supporters Simon Watts, Hannah Wright, Gary Webb and Simon Colliver.
