Rotherham Hospital was lit up in a special display to thank NHS workers across South Yorkshire as part of an initiative for the Clap for our Carers campaign on Thursday night.
Local company, PA Entertainment, spent hours setting up the lights at the hospital last Wednesday for it to be revealed on social media last night as part of the national effort to appreciate all workers who are helping in the fight against Covid-19.
Other hospitals in the area were also involved in Sheffield, Barnsley and Doncaster and all video light displays were revealed at the same time last night.
Rotherham native, Adam Nicholson, Director of PA Entertainments said: “We have completed displays around Yorkshire, including at the Wentworth Woodhouse and all of the football clubs and we wanted to finish off by doing this at the four local hospitals.
“We started out with an idea to show our thanks by lighting up the local stately home, Wentworth Woodhouse, in Rotherham, the largest fronted building in Europe, as we often work there to provide entertainment and lighting for weddings and events. We had the equipment so wanted to do what we could."
The crew released the images and video footage of Wentworth and the following day they were inundated by requests to light up other buildings and monuments around Yorkshire, said Adam. “A particular football club contacted us, and then this snowballed to us lighting up all of the Yorkshire football clubs including Sheffield United, Leeds United and Rotherham United."
Following the football clubs, the team have lit up various company head offices and landmarks, all in aid of showing their and everyone else's appreciation for the work the NHS is doing locally.
Adam said: “We wanted to end our whole project by lighting up the places that really matter, the local hospitals which we have now completed.
“The reaction and support has been phenomenal, and the requests for us to carry on lighting up what we can are continuing. BBC News have covered what we have done very closely and our work in some form has featured on the news and in various newspapers for the last four weeks. However this whole project is not about what we're doing, it's about us and Yorkshire appreciating and saying 'THANK YOU' for the work our amazing NHS are doing, and will continue to do."
