Coming into hospital can be worrying for some patients, but thanks to the Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity new ceiling and wall murals have been installed to make patients feel more relaxed.
The charity has donated £20,000 to fund 11 ceiling and wall murals for Rotherham Hospital, which when combined with specialist lighting, reflect a calming and cheerful glow.
The CT scanning rooms have been transformed with woodland and cloud themed murals and the radiology waiting room and discharge lounge is now home to picture-perfect tropical fish and country landscape themed walls. Animal and cloud themed ceiling lights can be found in the children’s dental recovery rooms and waiting areas.
Helen Green, Head of Nursing – Operations, said: “The final mural was installed recently at Rotherham Hospital and we couldn’t be more pleased with the impact they have had. They are lovely, calming and really brighten up every room they’re in. We're so grateful to everyone who has donated money to the Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity because they are already making a real difference to our patients’ experience of coming to hospital.”
Sarah Thorpe, Senior Dental Nurse, said the cloud-themed lighting in the children’s dental recovery room is already captivating young patients.
She said: “I’m so proud to work in such lovely surgeries with the cloud lighting. Patients in the Orthodontic surgeries all comment in amazement at the clouds above them. One said: ‘Can I stay here all day now?!’ And another said how much more relaxed they felt whilst having their treatment. We see teenagers with learning disabilities who also say they feel much more relaxed.”
The Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity raises money to fund equipment, resources and refurbishments to improve the patient experience at Rotherham Hospital and in the community. Fundraisers raised more than £78,000 last year for the charity.
