The Research, Innovation and Clinical Effectiveness team at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust (TRFT) is celebrating after marking a tremendous improvement in the number of participants taking part in research studies in 2016/17.
The team has achieved a phenomenal 99.3% rise in the total amount of participants in studies in Rotherham and an amazing 153.3% rise in the number of participants in commercial contract studies in 2016/17. This is compared to figures achieved in 2015/16 released this week as part of the as 2016/17 NIHR Research Activity League Table.
It is important that we help to recruit participants for clinical studies so that nationally the NHS can work towards developing more advanced and effective treatments for patients both now and in the future.
A recent study, for example, that colleagues in Rotherham have helped to recruit for includes the Positive Voices Survey into HIV which looked into adults living with HIV to help provide insights to inform improvements to services.
Phillipa Collins, Research, Innovation and Clinical Effectiveness Manager, said: “We’re very excited and proud to see our name in lights as part of 2016/17’s league table.
“It shows our Trust’s commitment to improving patient experience and health and wellbeing across our region and I’d like to extend our thanks to all who have made these achievements possible.”
2016/17’s NIHR Research Activity League Table also shows an improvement of 16.1% of the total number of studies being recruited for at TRFT; an increase of five more studies recruited for in 2016/17 than in 2015/16.
Regionally, more than 70,000 people participated in clinical research in NHS trusts and CCGs last year. This is an increase of about 15,000 on the previous year. Nationally, more than 660,000 people took part in research last year.
