Cheryl Clements launches the Trust step/cycle challenge

Colleagues from across The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust (TRFT) are taking part in a Tour de Yorkshire inspired Spin-a-Thon to raise money for the Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity.

The challenge is being led by the Trust’s Wellness Matters team to encourage colleagues to boost their health and fitness as well as raising awareness about the wellbeing services available.

Cheryl Clements, Executive Director of Workforce at TRFT, said: “With the Tour de Yorkshire coming to the region, we really wanted to inspire our colleagues to get fit and healthy and to think about their overall wellbeing. We also wanted to showcase some of the amazing benefits of our Wellness Matters scheme.

“We have such a dedicated and caring workforce here who always put patients first. This is our way of giving something back to them because we know that healthy and happy colleagues are more able to look after patients better too”.
The Tour de Rotherham Spin-a-Thon will take place from 8am-8pm on Thursday 20 and 8am-5pm on Friday 21 April 2017. You can show your support by popping along to Rotherham Hospital’s main entrance to cheer TRFT staff on and by and donating whatever you can afford. All funds raised will go to the Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity.

Carrie Kelly, Consultant Anaesthetist, is taking a spin on a bike and said: “Working in a busy department means every day is different and it can get incredibly busy. Our patients are our priority so there’s not often time for me to exercise or think about what might improve my wellbeing and fitness. I can’t wait to take a spin on the bike. I’m sure there will be a fantastic atmosphere with a lot of friendly comradery amongst the teams. It has really brought everyone together and motivated us to keep active”.

Eighteen teams are also taking part in a pedometer/cycle challenge to increase health and fitness and raise awareness of the Wellness programme available for Trust colleagues. The challenge started on Wednesday 5 April and runs to Friday 28 April to tie in with the start of the Tour de Yorkshire.
