Enhanced surroundings at the Park Rehabilitation Centre
Following the completion of comprehensive refurbishment, the Park Rehabilitation Centre is re-opening its doors to NHS patients on Tuesday 23 October 2012. Patients and centre users are invited to a special open session on Monday 22 October from 1pm to 7pm.
The much loved Rotherham facility was part of a review in 2011 and the positive outcome was for the centre to become the heart of a rehabilitation village with the help of its health partners to revitalise the many facilities already located on the Badsley Moor Lane site.
Details of opening date for self help users and members of the public will be issued shortly.

Review of Park Rehabilitation Centre services - April 2011
As part of the Trusts’ recent savings consultation announced early in March, the services we provide out of the Park Rehabilitation Centre were highlighted as one of the further areas for review at a later date. The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust (TRFT) is committed to involving and listening to the people who use their services. As you will be aware, we are facing tough choices due to the economic climate and as a result of an ongoing financial situation we face by providing services at the Park Rehabilitation Centre, we are announcing a review of how best to provide services for our NHS patients and other service users.
A recent price increase for non-NHS services at the Centre which was designed to make the services provided more financially affordable for the NHS received a number of complaints. It is clear that patients and other users value the services provided at Park Rehabilitation Centre and, as a result, we considered a review of the entire service to be the best way forward.
The Park Rehabilitation Centre is an expensive facility and is currently costing c£100,000 a year over and above the resources available to the Trust. Along with all other public sector organisations the Trust is facing massive efficiency savings and in light of the funding now being made available we have a duty to examine how NHS services can be provided in a more cost effective manner and ensure that NHS resources are not diverted to subsidise non-NHS services.
This review will involve as many service users, staff, health partners and other partners as possible to determine how best to provide all the current NHS funded and non-NHS services and balancing the needs of patients with the reality of the financial situation.
We want to work with you in order to ensure services are available for our NHS patients and more broadly for the people of Rotherham. If you would like to be involved in the review or have any comments please email: email@example.com.

Update - May 2011
The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust (TRFT) would like to thank everyone who has so far contacted us with regards to the Park Rehabilitation Centre (PRC) Review. The information is valuable and it has given us the opportunity to engage with those who use PRC facilities. All of the views and information that we have received will be fed into the Review process. The Trust is currently collating views from patients, users, staff and the wider community. We’d like to point out that individual responses will not be issued, however, we emphasise that everyone’s views will be included in the Review. TRFT is committed to involving and listening to the people who use their services.
The Review process started in early May. For an update about progress of the review please follow this link.
Update - August 2011
The Trust would like to reiterate its appreciation to all those who have participated in the Park Rehabilitation Centre Review (PRC). We have appreciatively received a high number of survey responses, views via letters and emails, along with invaluable feedback at numerous meetings that have taken place. We continue to be committed in involving and listening to people and all of the views we have received and the information gained have been fed into the Review process.
The next stage in this Review process is to evaluate the responses and work with our health partners to explore the options available to the Trust. The proposals regarding The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust services will be considered by the Trust’s Board of Directors in late September.
The Trust would also like to reinforce the message that no decision has been reached as to the future of NHS services delivered at PRC and we encourage people to continue utilising the facilities. We endeavour to ensure that services are available for our NHS patients and more broadly for the people of Rotherham.
Update - October 2011
The proposals following the review of The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust’s (TRFT) services currently provided at the Park Rehabilitation Centre (PRC) have recently been considered by the Trust’s Board of Directors who were keen to develop genuine alternatives to the transfer of NHS funded services away from the PRC site.
We can now confirm that the Board’s preferred option is that existing NHS services remain at the centre and they fully supported proposals to work with NHS Rotherham (NHSR) to maximise the use of the facilities available at the Park Rehabilitation Centre by transferring a range of therapy services to this site from the hospital. We are working with NHSR to secure their support and commitment to this preferred option and the Trust will be working with all parties concerned to secure this support in the coming weeks and months.
The Trust has worked very closely with its patients, staff, PRC users and health partners in order to ensure that everyone’s views have been listened to. The Trust’s review of its NHS services provided at the PRC is now complete and we would like to once again say thank you to everyone who has participated in the review. Everyone that has been involved has helped and will undoubtedly continue to help, in shaping the future of the Park Rehabilitation Centre.
Update - January 2012
Following the review of the Park Rehabilitation Centre (PRC) that took place last year, we are informing you about improvement works that will be commencing at the centre soon.
NHS Rotherham has agreed to commit funds which will enable the centre to be modernised and improved. We will be working closely with NHS Rotherham in order for an upgrade to be made to the fabric of the building. This will include replacement lighting and the installation of new windows and doors. These improvements will ensure that the building is energy efficient and that it provides a safe and secure environment for the people of Rotherham to improve their health and wellbeing.
As part of the schedule of improvements, some internal reconfiguration will also take place at PRC to allow further therapy services to be provided from the building in the near future.
The refurbishment work is due to begin in February 2012 and will be the start in making PRC a modern and efficient facility for the borough.
We hope that you bear with us whilst work is undertaken to improve the centre. We will ensure that any disruption is minimised as much as we possibly can, however there may be some unavoidable cancellations and /or alterations to activities. PRC staff will keep you informed of any changes.
We thank you for your continued support.
We will work with the contractors to minimise disruption to services whilst the work is completed.
