Trevor Pilling Right First Time

Trevor Pilling, Diabetes Lead Podiatrist at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust was this year’s winner of the ‘Right first time’ core value award in our PROUD Awards 2015.

Our 2015 Mr Right, Trevor, was identified as a colleague at the Trust who gets it ‘right first time’ for patients, putting each person at the centre of care and ensuring patients get the best treatment. Our ‘Right first time’ core value is also about being accountable for our use of public money and we take this responsibility seriously. We use our resources wisely for the benefit of the whole community and make sure nobody is excluded or left behind. We know that when we waste resources, we waste opportunities.

As part of his role as Diabetes Lead Podiatrist within the Trust’s Diabetes Centre, Trevor works with a team of Specialist Podiatrists and Podiatry Assistants. The team provide a specialist service treating patients with foot ulcers and diabetic complications as part of a multidisciplinary team, closely supported by Consultant Endocrinologists and Diabetes Specialist Nurses, Specialist Dietitians and Orthotists. The service also relies on the support of other services such as Vascular Surgery and X-ray, Microbiology, Tissue Viability and District Nurses; making it a true multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

Trevor was selected to win this award as he has great passion for his clinical commitment, to not only his patients but also to his colleagues. He is keen to share his knowledge and skills with the team and other health care professionals, for the benefit of the patient and he ensures that patients are at the heart of what he and the service do. He has a commitment to direct, clear and effective communication, both written and verbal, which has helped to achieve the goals and objectives of the service and has a great impact on the service and the Trust. He has been instrumental in encouraging colleagues develop their skills and knowledge and ensuring patients are safely seen by the right clinician at the right time.

Emma Green, Trevor’s Clinical Lead at the time, nominated Trevor for this award. She said: “Trevor’s focus is always on the patients and ensuring patients get the best treatment. He’s a great ambassador, not just for the department, but also for the Trust. Well done Trevor, we are all very proud of you!”

Trevor said: “Without the enthusiastic support of Podiatrists Angela, Sarah and especially Janice, our main assistant, I would not be able to provide the level of care that led to my winning of this award.

“Looking at the standard of other PROUD winners, it was an honour to be included in the awards ceremony and it highlights the excellent service that the Trust and our colleagues provide.

“I feel that ‘Right first time’ is an important core value and it is now more important than ever that we use our resources wisely to provide the best possible healthcare for the people of Rotherham.” #TRFTProud
