Breast Screening Rotherham

Parkgate Shopping is teaming up with Rotherham Hospital’s Breast Screening Team in a bid to encourage Rotherham women to take up their routine mammogram appointment.

On Friday, 15 May, Rotherham Breast Screening Champion, Kaye Mann, 32, her mother Pat, 61, and son Henry Thomas - Mann, 2, met with Janet Drury, Parkgate Deputy Centre Manager and representatives from various stores to promote Rotherham’s Breast Screening Champion campaign.

Kaye’s mother, Pat, first went for breast screening at Rotherham Hospital when she was 53, but wasn’t initially going to go for her mammogram as she ‘didn’t realise the importance of it.’

Fortunately she did attend, and her mammogram revealed a cancerous lump that saw her treated for the disease. Pat beat the cancer and now, eight years on, wants to encourage women across Rotherham to take up their screening invitation.

Janet Drury, Parkgate Deputy Centre Manager said: “At Parkgate Shopping we take the health of our staff and customers seriously, I would encourage all our female staff, customers and ladies of Rotherham over the age of 50, to take up their offer of breast screening”

Holly Scotson, Deputy Superintendent Radiographer from Rotherham Hospital’s Breast Screening Unit said:

“We would like to say a big thank you to Parkgate staff for helping us to increase awareness and stress the importance of women attending their mammogram appointment. It really does save lives. “

“I strongly urge all women of Rotherham to join the fight and take up their breast screening invitations. If you can’t make the appointment offered, please don’t hesitate to contact the screening unit as it can be easily re-arranged. ”

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals who are delivering the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw- wide Breast Screening campaign have recruited seven champions from across Barnsley, Bassetlaw, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield to help promote Breast Screening across the region.

Breast screening is currently available to women aged 50 to 70 years and Rotherham Hospital is urging women across South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw to make the time to attend their screening appointment, when they receive their invitation every three years.

If you have missed your last mammogram appointment or you would simply like more information on the screening process call Rotherham’s Breast Screening Unit on 01709 424807.
