Rotherham Opportunity Brings Top Medic Back Home from Down Under

The opportunity to become Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust’s new medical director has brought critical care consultant Dr Conrad Wareham back to the UK after a decade working Down Under.

Dr Wareham flies back to take up his new post later this month from Australia, where he has held a number of senior roles over the past 10 years, including Executive Director for Medical Services.

He brings with him a wealth of experience including: the strategic development of clinical streams; shaping and designing services across North Adelaide Local Health Network; and working closely with clinical and consultant colleagues to deliver changes for patients.

He trained in the UK and specialises in anaesthesia and critical care.

Dr Wareham says: “The decade I have spent in Australia has been a tremendous professional and personal opportunity. I am very excited about my new role in Rotherham and look forward to putting my experience and skills to good use back at home.”

Louise Barnett, Chief Executive of The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, says: “Strong clinical leadership plays a vital part in the delivery of our strategy to develop safe, high quality sustainable services in this Trust, and a key role in making this happen is that of our Medical Director.

“I am sure Dr Wareham’s experience will be invaluable as he works with colleagues to help shape and deliver services for our patients. His appointment also completes the process to make substantive appointments to each of our executive director posts.

She adds: “I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Donal O’Donoghue for his sterling work as interim medical director. He will be with us for a little while more, supporting a number of key projects as well as handing over to Dr Wareham.”

Trust Chairman Martin Havenhand, Chairman adds “This is a key appointment to the Board and I confident we have secured an excellent addition to the team who will engage internally and externally to define and deliver our strategy”.
