Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity has pledged a generous £30,000 to Rotherham’s Scanner Appeal launched by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) in November.

The appeal is now well on the way to raise a total of £108,633 to buy a new heart scanner for Rotherham Hospital.

Tracy Williams, Fundraiser for Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity, said: “I’m very pleased that we can support this appeal through our pledge. I’m proud that our charity can help to improve and even save more lives in Rotherham by helping to purchase this important piece of equipment.

"I would like to thank those who support Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity for making this pledge possible.”

The piece of equipment the appeal is set to provide is an echo-cardio machine, additional to the three already in use at Rotherham Hospital, which uses sound waves to create detailed three-dimensional images which allow doctors to see the structure of the heart and heart valves, also giving information on the function and pumping action of the heart.

The demand for heart scans has been steadily increasing in Rotherham and an additional echo-cardio machine, will mean that even more patients can be seen and diagnosed quickly.

Lauren Mallinson, Fundraising Manager at the BHF, said: “There are currently thousands of people fighting a daily battle with heart disease in Rotherham. ~

The new equipment in Rotherham Hospital will help diagnose heart conditions more quickly and accurately so doctors can make sure people get the right treatment when they need it.

"Thanks to the support of Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity, the Rotherham Scanner Appeal is well on its way to gathering the funds needed to help improve even more lives locally. However, your support is still needed to ensure the new scanner can be put in place as soon as possible.”
