Rotherham golfers have raised an astonishing £6,400 over the last year in support of the Rotherham Hospital Charity’s Purple Butterfly Appeal.

The Purple Butterfly Appeal was launched in 2010 and aims to raise funds to improve and enhance the care we can provide for patients who have life-limiting illnesses or conditions.

Part of this work is in creating the best possible environment for patients, and the Purple Butterfly Suites at Rotherham Hospital provide a home from home environment, where patients spending their last few days in hospital can be cared for with the support of relatives, friends and loved ones.

The 2014 Captain for Sitwell Golf Club, Mike Slattery, selected the Purple Butterfly Appeal as his chosen charity and has hosted golf days, car parking bids, raffles, collections and charity weekends to raise funds for this fantastic appeal.

At the committee’s ‘last supper’, Mike presented a cheque of £6,400 for the Purple Butterfly Appeal. He said: “The Purple Butterfly Appeal is a fantastic cause and one which I am pleased to have been able to support during my time as Captain. I have seen the difference the charity can make for those who are reaching the end of their life and hope that our donation helps to continue their fantastic work.

“Thank you to all of my fellow golfers and everyone who has donated to the appeal over the last 12 months.”

Tracy Williams, Charity Development Officer for Rotherham Hospital Charity said: “A huge thank you to Mike Slattery and all of the members at Sitwell Golf Club. Without support from the public, we would not be able to provide such enhanced facilities and it is with thanks to them that patients can be cared for in a private and calming environment in the company of their family and friends at a time when it is, perhaps, most needed.”
