Throughout December patients, visitors, volunteers and colleagues of The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust have been getting into the festive spirit and with all their support, have helped raise over £3700 for Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity.

Thursday, 10 December was Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity’s annual Christmas Fair. It’s the charity’s biggest event of the Christmas period and was supported by many volunteers and colleagues. There was a raffle, tombola, cake sale, Christmas card sale and even a Santa’s Grotto provided by Gala Tent, which brightened the day of many children visiting and staying in hospital!

The support of patients, visitors, colleagues and volunteers at this event alone helped to raise a fantastic £500.

Throughout December, volunteers have also given up their time each week to sell Christmas items and raffle tickets, with over 10 fantastic prizes. Thanks to their amazing support and enthusiasm for fundraising, the volunteers raised an astonishing £2630 for the charity.

Tracy Williams, Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity Fundraiser, said: “I would like to say a special thank you to all of the volunteers who have helped fundraise over the Christmas period. The volunteers help with charity events all year round and I do not know what I would do without them! They are fantastic.”

And last, but by no means least, there was a ‘Wear a Christmas Jumper Day’ at the Trust and we saw lots of colleagues in all manner of colourful and ‘stylish’ Christmas jumpers! However, there are always those who take ‘festive’ to an all new level and in keeping with Trust tradition, Bob Lumby, Logistics Operative did his annual visit to various wards and departments in a ‘surprise’ costume, collecting donations for Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity’s Dr Ted’s Children’s Appeal. This year bob was dressed as a minion and was accompanied by snowman, Angela Griffiths, who recently retired as Ward Manager of the Special Care Baby Unit.

The duo raised over £590 for the Special Care Baby Unit who would like to extend their special thanks to them for their support.

The children on the Children’s Ward also received a special visit and chocolate from the players of Rotherham United Football Club.
