Rotherham Hospice and the Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity are collaborating on the event, inviting participants to bare their soles at Wickersley Cricket Club, Rotherham, on 6 November 2023, from 6pm.

Fundraisers can choose to support either the Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity or Rotherham Hospice with both organisations hoping to raise thousands of pounds to enhance hospital and hospice care in Rotherham.

Last year, 18 firewalkers took part, raising almost £8,000.

Rachael Dawes, Head of Fundraising at the Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be working with Rotherham Hospice once again. The atmosphere at last year’s event was brilliant and it was great to see people conquer their nerves as they faced the hot coals. This year we’ve gone one step further and added the extra challenge of walking on glass.

It’s not a fundraiser for the faint hearted! Whether you’d like to take part in memory of a loved one, to celebrate a milestone birthday or simply to thank the NHS or the hospice, it will certainly be a night to remember.”

Paula Figueira, Income Generation Manager at Rotherham Hospice, added: "We rely on our amazing community of supporters to raise the £3 million it takes every year to keep providing vital end-of-life care for families in Rotherham. We're always looking for exciting ways to inspire people to fundraise and we can't wait to see who is ready to take on this double challenge!

The event costs £25 per person to take part. Participants will undergo an hour of training with experts from Firewalk UK and can test their nerve walking on fire or glass, or both.

Participants must be aged 18 or over to take part. Spectators are welcome to come and cheer on their family and friends – the more the merrier – but please leave your furry friends at home. There will be food and family-friendly entertainment too.
