Specialist staff offer the latest in laser hair removal

11 Oct 2010 11:41:57

Visit the Careplus Skin websiteShaving, plucking and waxing are a thing of the past thanks to an innovative new laser hair removal service at Rotherham Hospital’s dermatology department.

Careplus Skin is a consultant led service and treatment is provided by an experienced team of dermatology trained nurses who aim to provide a long term solution to unwanted hair.

Acting Matron for Specialist Medicine Tara Lees says: “Unlike other methods, laser hair removal provides a safe and effective long term solution to unwanted hair on the face and body. The laser works by using a single wavelength of light that targets the melanin in the hair root, which makes the treatment very effective.

“Other places do offer laser therapy but we have the advantage of a specialist team who can provide treatment in a comfortable and safe environment. We’re really pleased to be able to offer this service to the people of Rotherham.”

Sessions will be available in the evening and at weekends to suit people who are busy working during the week and all treatments will be carried out in the hospital’s relaxing Dermatology suite. Consultant Dermatologist Dr Anna Muncaster says:

“The laser feels like a rubber band being gently flicked against the skin which is less painful than waxing or electrolysis. It is also less likely to cause damage to the skin. There is about a 20% reduction in hair growth following each session and we would recommend a course of between 4-6 treatments for the best results.

It usually takes less than 30 minutes, so it can be a quick and easy alternative to shaving.

“We offer a variety of treatment options for face, arms, back, legs and bikini line and I would encourage anyone with unwanted hair to get in touch with us to see what we can do. Laser therapy is a skilled technique so it should always be done by trained professionals so as not to burn or blister the skin. By having treatment at the hospital, people will get expert care from our dedicated team.

So whether people want laser hair removal for the convenience of saving time with shaving, or to help with self image and confidence building we can help.”
