The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust’s Stop Smoking Service is encouraging patients, visitors and staff to get rid of the cigarettes and save pounds with their help. The service, which runs sessions across Rotherham and in Rotherham Hospital’s main concourse, helps thousands of smokers to quit every year.
Stop Smoking Specialist Zahra Ellis says: “It can be really difficult for some people to quit, but we can give support and advice to help them along the way. It will also help to save them a packet as the average 20 a day smoker spends £167.29 per month on cigarettes - that works out at over £2,000 a year!
“Summer is a great time to give up cigarettes and get healthier. There are lots of activities to get involved in outdoors to start a new approach to health. It can be tempting to light up on summer nights, but many people who decide to quit at this time of the year stick to the resolution better than those who choose to quit at New Year, when there is added pressure from friends and family.”
The Stop Smoking Service offers free and friendly support and free Nicotine Replacement Therapy such as nicotine inhalers and patches. They can also help with access to Zyban and Champix (normal prescription charges apply to these products).
Zahra said: “It is not easy to give up smoking, but it’s something that we feel very strongly about and we want to offer help to anyone who would like to kick the habit. Smokers are four times more likely to quit with our support. Drop in today for help, no appointment needed.”
Anyone can use the service without an appointment and the concourse centre is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
