A team of Physiotherapists from The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust beat stiff competition to become this year’s ‘It’s a Knockout’ champions.
Competitors and spectators alike braved the changeable weather to show their support for TRFT’s charitable appeals which include Dr Ted’s Children’s Appeal and The Purple Butterfly Appeal which raises funds for end of life care.
It was a closely fought contest between the eight teams which consisted of clinical and support staff from the Trust and the general public including a team from the Rotherham Lions.
All the teams threw themselves into the competition getting thoroughly soaked through, covered in foam and completing crazy games in the style of the 70s BBC televisionshow.
When it came to the crunch the Physiotherapists aka ‘Therapy Thrashers’ had it in the bag and got to raise the coveted ‘It’s a Knockout’ trophy.
Team captain of the Therapy Thrashers, Elaine Bradshaw, said: “I’m delighted! We were aiming high but this is much better than we imagined we would do. My team were brilliant and really pulled it out of the bag at the end. The competition was pretty fierce though, so I think it must have been a tight finish!”
Despite the weather the atmosphere was electric and the crowds were even treated to a special warm up by special guest, Batman - also known as Chief Executive, Brian James, in costume.
Trust Chairman and fellow IAKO contestant, Peter Lee, said: “It was great to see so many people from the Trust and their friends and families enjoying themselves and raising money for these worthy causes at the same time. Everyone has worked really hard to make this a success and I have really enjoyed being involved, although I don’t remember this being in the job description!”
The event which took place at the Outokumpu Sports and Social Club in Rotherham, has already raised over £3000 and the donations are still flooding in.
It’s not too late to donate though, call Tracy Williams on 01709 427589 if you would like to support TRFT’s Charitable Appeals or if you are interested in getting involved in ‘It’s a Knockout’ next year.
