Award winning staff at TRFT

A team at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust (TRFT) has scooped a prestigious award for their innovative training initiative.

Clare Thomas and Sue Downs, of the Estates and Facilities directorate at TRFT, were instrumental in winning the Outstanding Team Award at the recent national Association of Healthcare Cleaning Professionals (AHCP) annual conference.

The team was selected as a winner due to the innovative work they have undertaken with their colleagues on Mandatory and Statutory Training (MAST) and, in particular, with Information Governance (IG) training.

Sue commented: “Many members of our team are not office based but still need to access the Trust’s MAST packages. We took the existing e-learning packages and tailored these to suit members of our team.

“We have produced practical face-to-face training programmes, incorporating realistic examples that really bring the training to life. We have seen improvements amongst the team when it comes to understanding the MAST modules and most of our team now get the training right first time.”

Brian James, Chief Executive of The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I would like to extend my congratulations to all involved with this outstanding achievement.

“The innovation shown by Clare and Sue here is fantastic and this ‘one team’ approach is something I highly encourage amongst all employees at the Trust.”

All staff at the Trust must complete MAST training, which includes an IG module, in order to ensure that they are operating within NHS guidance and frameworks which help to keep staff and our patients safe and secure.

The award follows a previous success for the team where they were shortlisted as a finalist in the Training Initiative Award category at the HefmA (Healthcare Estates and Facilities Management Association) annual conference earlier this year.

At the AHCP conference the Trust was also highlighted in the Working in Partnership Award category for the approach undertaken by the Estates and Facilities cleaning teams, Infection Control Nursing team and Bioquell our deep cleaning contractor in working together in managing HCAI incidents.
