International medical leaders get a taste of TRFT

10 Dec 2012 15:06:52

29 hospital directors from across Iraq recently spent time experiencing the workings of the Trust as part of an education programme in medical leadership for four months with Sheffield Hallam University.

The visit was organised as part of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Iraqi Ministry of Health to give the medical leaders a greater understanding of work in a UK hospital setting including the structure, the Trust’s strategy and its governance. The aim is to learn from the British model and then adapt it to the Iraqi healthcare system.

The Iraqi group will be spending three separate days at TRFT to observe healthcare systems and processes and have already completed their first day on strategy and governance framework.

Director of Infection Prevention and Control and organiser of the event Professor Al-Wali said: "The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust is a very progressive organisation and one that is leading the way on many innovative projects. Working closely with Sheffield Hallam University on their Medical Leadership course and having close links with Iraq, this seemed like a perfect opportunity to support our colleagues in Iraq and share best practice with them."

"I was born in Iraq and I am very pleased to see so many representatives from the country here to see how TRFT works. We should be very proud of this Trust especially in light of the current financial climate and the pressure this brings for organisations like ours, and the whole NHS in general. It is a huge compliment that these senior representatives choose to come so far to see how we operate and is testament to the great work taking place at TRFT."
