The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust has welcomed Donal O’Donoghue as its Interim Medical Director.
Until June 2013 Donal was Chief Executive at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust and prior to this he held the post of Medical Director at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust.
Louise Barnett, Chief Executive at the Trust, said: “We are delighted to announce that Donal has joined the Trust.
“I am confident that Donal will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this role and support us to maintain our high standards Trust-wide in terms of patient safety, effectiveness of care and patient experience”.
Donal, as full time Interim Medical Director, will be the Responsible Officer and will work alongside Dr David Hicks, who has been Acting Medical Director for the last year. Dr Hicks will now take up the part-time post as Deputy Medical Director to facilitate an effective transition in leadership arrangements.
Louise added: “I would personally like to thank Dr Hicks for his support and contribution to the Trust during the last 12 months.”
Donal added: “I look forward to meeting more Trust colleagues over the coming weeks and to working with Dr Hicks and fellow Board members to continue to deliver the Trust’s mission; to improve the health and wellbeing of those who benefit from our services so that we can build a healthier future together.”
Donal passionately believes that excellent clinical care depends on excellent clinicians and excellent managers working closely together to improve services. Donal’s special interests include medical management, spinal surgery and metastatic bone disease.
The recruitment process for a substantive Medical Director has commenced with an appointment anticipated in Spring 2015.
