The Supervisor of Midwives team at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust recently hosted its first drop in session on the 8th December in Green Oaks Antenatal Clinic, Rotherham Hospital, Moorgate Road.

The session was open to pregnant ladies and new mums for them to find out more about how the Supervisor of Midwives team in Rotherham may be of use to them.

The Supervisor of Midwives team can give advice on choices around birth such as where the birth will take place and the mum-to-be’s expectations and the team can also provide support after the birth of a baby in terms of talking about the experience.

This is the first time this service has held a drop-in session in this way and it is hoped that this will be a regular event. Trudy Hutson, Supervisor of Midwives at the Trust, commented: “We want people to know that we can give support and guidance to women and families, as well as our midwives. Our main aim is to support women to make informed choices and to assist those who might have questions or need help with their preferred birth choices.”

New mother, Vrata Chigateri from Rotherham, was present at the drop in session and said: “I was pleased to feedback that following the birth of my little girl, the support from the Breastfeeding Support Team was great, both on the Wharncliffe Ward at Rotherham Hospital and the support provided by the Breastfeeding Co-ordinator. I am very thankful for their help, particularly in my first week.

“The Community Midwives would also regularly come and see me to check if I needed any support.”

For more information, or to contact the Supervisor of Midwives Team, call 01709820000 or 01709424491. A supervisor of midwives is available to contact 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
