Make May Purple for Stroke Awareness Month!

04 May 2016 14:21:44

The Stroke Team at the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust are going purple for May, with a series of fundraising events for Stroke Awareness Month.

Colleagues from Rotherham Hospital will kick off their month of activities with an 8 mile sponsored walk around Chatsworth House in Derbyshire on Saturday 7th May.

Mariano Ponte, Stroke Nurse Team Manager at Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, said:

“The Stroke Team is really excited to be taking part in Stroke Awareness Month. We hope we can raise lots of money for charity and in the process educate the public about the care and support available to post-stroke patients and their families.”

A stroke is caused when the blood flow to an area of the brain is cut off, causing those brain cells to die.

Anyone is at risk of having a stroke, with effects including slurred speech and patients being paralysed, depending how severely the brain is damaged.

The Rotherham Foundation Trust not only treats stroke patients during emergency admittance, but offers care and support into the future, with two thirds of stroke survivors living with some kind of disability.

Further activities planned for Stroke Awareness Month at Rotherham Hospital include:
