Where do we work?
The team is based at Rotherham Community Health Centre and Kimberworth Place but speech and language therapists work across a range of locations:
Community clinics and children's centres
We have therapists working in the following locations to provide assessment and therapy sessions: Rotherham Community Health Centre, Aston, Anston, Wickersley, Wath and Maltby.
Mainstream schools
Our therapists also work in mainstream schools. Children are seen in school if:
- The nature and severity of their difficulties means that this is the only way to help them make progress - and their learning may be affected by their communication difficulties
and/or
- Their school has entered into a contract with us to provide a service on site.
We offer intensive therapy to children attending the Language Resource at Anston Hillcrest Primary School, and work closely with teaching staff to ensure that work on communication skills link in with the curriculum.
Special schools
All of the special schools in Rotherham have one or more speech and language therapists allocated to them who visit regularly. They see children and young people whose communication or eating/drinking issues are complex - so the teaching team and parents need some specialist input so they know how best to help.
Child Development Centre (also at Kimberworth Place)
Speech and language therapists are usually part of the multi-disciplinary team assessing a child's needs. This sort of assessment is offered where there are concerns about more than one area of a child's development so a team approach is needed.
