Fundraising
for the Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity during the Coronavirus pandemic has been no
mean feat when we haven’t been able to get together with our friends, family
and colleagues in person as much as we'd like.
Despite
the challenges, we have seen some incredible activities taking place in
Rotherham and beyond to boost the charity – thank you so much.
Please
don’t stop now! The charity is challenging you to have some fundraising fun by learning a new skill, taking on a challenge, connecting with your family
and friends in creative ways and by entertaining others.
So
what can you do to support the charity? Here are a few virtual
fundraising ideas to inspire you.
Please
don’t forget to stay safe, to register your event with Just Giving and to let the charity know about your
fundraise plans by calling 01709 426821 or emailing trft.charity@nhs.net.
The Big Sleep Out
We’ve
all spent a lot of time at home recently, so why not take your home outdoors
and enjoy a sponsored camping challenge? We’re looking for families with an
adventurous spirit to camp out in your garden or local green space and to
donate what you would have spent at a camp or caravan site. Your Big Sleep Out
could include all sorts of activities from a nature scavenger hunt, a bug
trail, a camp kitchen cooking competition, stargazing, or a ghost story
competition. You could even set up your own Camping Olympics with an assault
course, tug-of-war and sack races. Don’t forget your map, sleeping bag and
torch!
Virtual Marathon
Tackling 26.2 miles is a tall order so
why not challenge your friends, family, work colleagues or sports team members
to share the leg work by running the distance between you? You can do this in
your garden, on your treadmill or around your local park. Amateur runners can brave
their first few miles with experienced members tackling the longer distances.
Set a date, challenge your friends, family and neighbours, create your Just
Giving page and grab your trainers – good luck!
Virtual Come Dine With
Me
We have been getting creative in
the kitchen during lockdown. Whether you a keen baker or love savoury treats, why not share
your favourite recipe virtually with your dream dinner party guests. All you
need to do is design your menu, set up a Skype, Zoom or Facebook Live tutorial
from your kitchen and invite your guests to get ready, steady, cook! You can
then virtually share your (hopefully!) delicious meal together afterwards.
Don’t forget to create a shopping list beforehand and share it with your guests.
We recommend you donate the cost of your ingredients to the charity.
Virtual Red Carpet
New
movies may still be waiting for their curtain call but that doesn’t mean we
can’t enjoy all the fun of the movies at home. To call ‘lights, camera, action’
on your virtual movie night all you need to do is pick your premier date,
select a film (or a complimentary double bill) from your favourite genre and
send out tickets to your fellow audience members. Our top tip would be to
select a family-friendly film from Netflix, Sky or Amazon Prime Video which everyone
can download easily. Check your Wi-Fi is working well, grab your popcorn and
get comfy on the sofa. To make it extra special why not turn your movie night
into a red carpet event and dress for the occasion in your finest outfits? We’d
recommend your virtual cinema goers donate the cost of their usual cinema
ticket and snacks to the charity. Don’t forget to tune in remotely via Facebook
Live or Skype so you can all share the experience together.
Sponsored Summer Walk
If
the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s to love the great outdoors and in
Rotherham we’re blessed with parks, woodland and green spaces galore. We’re
also lucky enough to have the Peak District on our doorstep too. Why not
challenge yourself or a team to a sponsored walk? (Remember to keep social
distancing in mind!) It could be a leisurely few miles around Clifton Park or
Rother Valley Country Park or a more challenging route. Check out www.walkingbritain.co.uk/find-walks-by-me for inspiration.
Virtual Talent Show
You
might not have a large crowd to play to at the moment but a true showman
wouldn’t let that hold them back! We know you’re a talented lot in Rotherham,
so why not challenge your friends and family to a Britain’s Got Talent style virtual
talent show? Whether you can sing, dance, rap, perform magic tricks, act or
make people laugh – the choice is yours. You will need to set a date, send out
invites, charge an entry fee (which can be donated Via Just Giving) and
challenge participants to practice their routine before connecting online via
Facebook Live or Skype. Thankfully Simon Cowell will be nowhere in sight but you
will need to nominate a judge and select a prize for the winner.
Virtual Happy Hour
Enjoying
coffee or cocktails remotely was the only (safe) way of catching up with
friends, family and colleagues during the pandemic. But lockdown doesn’t mean you should
miss out on catching up with your favourite people. Why not bring your best
friends, work buddies or fellow tea guzzlers together for a virtual happy hour
via Zoom, Facebook live or Skype. All you need to do is put the kettle on, brew
your favourite coffee or concoct a cocktail and get comfy with the people you
have missed seeing the most. You can then raise a glass to the charity and
donate the cost of your favourite tipple. Cheers!
