Welcome to the Rotherham Backs Breastfeeding campaign page!

In June 2022 the Trust’s Infant Feeding Team are launching a campaign to raise awareness of the importance of breastfeeding across Rotherham.

The aim is to encourage an increase in breastfeeding and to show our support in making feeding easier for new parents.

Breastfeeding in public can cause anxiety and these worries or embarrassment can lead to feeling unable or unwilling to feed in public. This can put people off choosing to breastfeed in the first place or lead them to stop earlier than they planned.

We want to create a culture of encouragement and support for breastfeeding across Rotherham so that everyone feels comfortable to feed their babies wherever they are.

The campaign aims to promote the many ways we can all make feeding easier when parents are out and about in Rotherham. This will include:

  • A Breastfeeding Friendly venues scheme
  • Leaflets and online information for new parents with practical tips for feeding when around other people
  • Information for anyone supporting new parents
  • Posters highlighting why supporting breastfeeding is important

Calling all artists and crafters!

The aim of the Rotherham Backs Breastfeeding campaign is to send a clear message to new parents that their breastfeeding efforts are valued. We want our campaign to be eye catching, memorable and special.

There are many talented artists, crafters, makers and creators in Rotherham that we would love to involve in the campaign. This will culminate in an exhibition to run in conjunction with the campaign.

We're asking for a wide variety of unique arts and crafts donations, to be included in the exhibition. These can include:

  • Poems
  • Songs
  • Drawings
  • Paintings
  • Needle crafts
  • Sculptures
  • Photographs

They should celebrate babies being breastfed or send an important message about why breastfeeding in public must be supported.

Pieces should be easy to transport and display so not too large please. The closing date for submission of exhibition pieces is 2 May, 2022.

Please send your donations and submissions with your name and contact details to:

Find more information on these below.

The team are also looking for small cover-ups such as muslin squares, small scarves, and small baby items such as bootees and cardigans.

Crafty resources: Click on the images below for details on how to make various crocheted items. For some line drawing ideas, see bottom of page.
