Blood tests: 01709 434297

Your blood tests will be requested on our computer system, all you need to do is call the Blood Room on the number above on the first day of your period and state which day you need your tests done. Tests needed on specific days should be done on these days regardless of how long your bleeding lasts and if it has stopped. The first day of your period counts as day 1, use a calendar to count the days until your test will be needed e.g. 21 days from the first day of your period (including that first day) for day 21 blood tests. The person on the phone should also be able to help work out which day you need the tests doing. If day 1 of your period is at a weekend then please call on the Monday (or Tuesday if it is a Bank Holiday Monday).

•  Day 2-4 tests: usually includes FSH and LH, if this falls on a weekend then make an appointment for the Monday after

•  Day 21 tests: mainly for progesterone, you should be able to book an appointment for day 21 when you call the Blood Room on day 1; if this falls at a weekend please book for the Monday after. If your cycles are irregular/ longer cycles lasting 35-40 days, you should arrange this test for Day 28

•  Not day specific: call anytime (the sooner the better) and book at a suitable time for you (these can be done at the same time as day 2 or day 21 tests)

Dye Tests (HSG): 01709 424358

This will also be requested on our computer system, simply call the above number on day 1 of your period and make an appointment for between day 5 and 10, regardless of whether you have stopped bleeding. If day 1 falls at a weekend then please call on the Monday (Tuesday if it a Bank Holiday Monday). If no appointments are available within this time frame then please wait until your next period and call again on day 1.

You must have submitted a chlamydia swab within the last 6 months to have this test. We can send you a swab in the post if you do not have a valid swab result, please bring this sample to the hospital laboratory as soon as possible as we will need the result before your HSG test. Instructions of how to do the swab will be included with the swab. Samples should be taken to the Pathology Laboratory on A floor of the Main Hospital, opposite the Rooftop Café.

If you have any questions leading up to your appointment or wish to speak to a nurse then please call 01709 427086.

Semen Analysis: 01709 424358

We will send you a collection pot in the post to collect the sample. You must not ejaculate for 3 days prior to the sample collection as this may change your results. You can take the sample to the Pathology Laboratory on A floor of the Main Hospital between 9am and 1pm Monday to Friday. The sample must be submitted within 1 hour of collecting the sample and should be kept warm during transport to prevent sperm loss. Please make sure you complete all the questions on the request form and bring this with you.

All of the above information of arranging your tests will be provided in the leaflets sent out to you. Should you have any further queries please feel free to contact us.
