Stopping smoking during pregnancy

Our Smoking in Pregnancy Service

Quitting smoking when you are pregnant is the most important step you can take to make sure you have a healthy and happy pregnancy and give your baby the best start in life.

The Rotherham Smoking in Pregnancy team is a free specialist service to support women to stop smoking during their pregnancy.

Many women who want to give up smoking often feel guilty that they smoke. The Smoking in Pregnancy team knows how hard it can be to quit smoking and does not judge women who smoke. You are four times more likely to quit smoking with our help.

You can find out more about the risks of smoking during pregnancy by watching the following video.

How can we help?

All women who smoke will be referred to the smoking in pregnancy team. You will be given an appointment at a time and place that suits you to ensure you get the help that you need.

The smoking in pregnancy team can provide you with the following:

  • Weekly face-to-face visits – please note that these are currently on hold due to Covid-19
  • Telephone support
  • Free nicotine replacement treatment and information on using the e-cigarette
  • Support throughout your pregnancy and postnatal period

It is never too late to stop smoking during pregnancy. Everyone has their own reasons to quit, we will explore these with you and help you to stay on the right track!

How to get support

Ask your midwife, doctor or health professional at any point in your pregnancy to refer you to the smoking in pregnancy team.

or

Make your appointment by phoning 01709 423729 and ask for an appointment with the smoking in pregnancy team.
