An open letter from Dr Richard Jenkins, Interim CEO

09 Sep 2021 16:21:12

Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, the people of Rotherham have shown our colleagues a huge amount of support and we are extremely grateful for this. While restrictions have eased, we still need your support.

Health services are currently very busy which means waiting times may be longer and appointments may need rearranging at short notice. We understand this can be frustrating, but please bear with us.

In Rotherham, we currently have more than 70 patients in the hospital who have tested positive for Covid-19 and the local infection rate is higher than many areas. Please help us by continuing to be cautious and reduce the risk of you, your family, friends and colleagues getting Covid-19. If you haven’t had your Covid-19 vaccination, please do make arrangements as this can reduce the risk of you becoming seriously ill and needing to be admitted to hospital.

While our health services are under pressure, please do only use them if you really need to. This will allow us to focus on those who need our help the most. Many common illnesses and ailments can be effectively treated at home using over-the-counter products from your local pharmacy.

If you think you need medical help but are unsure the best place to go, contact NHS 111 by phone or online. Depending on your needs, a GP or the hospital (including the Urgent and Emergency Care Centre) may not be the best place for you. If you do need urgent or emergency medical attention, we are here for you.

Our colleagues have been working tirelessly through these unprecedented circumstances, so please treat them the way you would like to be treated.

I thank you all for your continued support.

Dr Richard Jenkins

Interim Chief Executive, The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust
