Keeping in touch with loved ones while they are in hospital from 1 August 2020

03 Aug 2020 12:59:35

At Rotherham Hospital, we understand how difficult it must be for families and loved ones at a time where visiting is suspended and we want to support our patients and their loved ones as best we can. We have in recent months established the Patient Property and Communication Facilitator roles and from 1August 2020 these roles will be managed directly by individual wards.

Arrange a video call/telephone call with your loved one

Each ward has the facilities to set this up for you. Please note however that this would be pre-arranged with the ward and before we make the video-call we would agree a convenient time with you. Please contact the ward your loved one is on either by phoning the ward directly or by going through the main hospital switchboard: 01709 820000.

Bring in personal belongings for your loved ones

Please contact the ward your loved one is on either by phoning the ward directly or by going through the main hospital switchboard: 01709 820000.

When dropping off property:

  • Please do not come in if you have had any symptoms of COVID19 or have been in contact with anyone with COVID19 within the last 14 days, including symptoms of a dry cough, high temperature or loss of taste/smell.

  • Please book a time and location with the ward to drop the items off

  • Please wear a face covering at all times while in the hospital

  • Remember to sanitise or wash your hands when entering the hospital, and after leaving

Items:

  • Please only bring in essential items.

  • Please make staff aware if the bag contains medication, food, or if your loved one will need assistance with anything that it contains.

  • We can also help get clothing back out of the hospital in sealed bags that dissolve open in a washing machine.
