Rotherham Hospital joins #InWithTheBins campaign

31 Aug 2021 14:13:37

We are proud to be supporting the #InWithTheBins campaign by installing sanitary bins in men’s toilet cubicles throughout Rotherham Hospital.

The campaign, pioneered by ‘Trans Man Talks’ founder Quinn Pearse Brown, aims to increase the provision of sanitary bins for trans men and non-binary people who still experience periods. The bins also benefit men with particular medical conditions who may rely on sanitary bins, for instance when changing colostomy bags.

Emily Wraw, Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, said: “I am delighted to see the bins in place throughout the hospital. We want people to feel comfortable and supported whilst visiting our site and we are pleased that this campaign benefits people in the LGBT+ community and beyond.”

This initiative follows the Trust’s successful launch of the NHS Rainbow Badge scheme, which involves staff completing an LGBT+ awareness course and signing a pledge. The scheme aims to provide reassurance to patients, families and colleagues that the Trust is inclusive and non-judgemental for people who identify as LGBT+.

Deputy Chief Executive of the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, Michael Wright, said: “We serve a diverse community and we understand the importance of providing an inclusive environment for those within it. This scheme is one more way for us to show our support for the LGBT+ community.”
