Where we are
The pharmacy is located on A and C Levels. The main dispensary is situated at junction 3 on C level. Technical services, Medicines information and office accommodation are on A level close to the loading bay.
What we do
We manage the risks associated with using medicines and make sure medicines are used in a safe and cost effective way. Pharmacy staff visit wards and departments to offer help and advice for patients, medical and nursing staff on the use of medicines. We also offer a medicines management service which involves ensuring patients have the right medicines available either through use of their own medicines or by dispensing them from the pharmacy.
The dispensary has recently been modernised with the introduction of an automated dispensing picking head. This means that once labels are generated the majority of products are automatically selected and delivered direct to the technicians ordering them.
Medicines required for discharged patients and those for out-patients are also supplied through the dispensary. Long term treatment is given for 28 days so that patients have plenty of time to arrange further supplies from their own GP.
We use modern isolator technology to dispense intravenous medicines, ready for use. This includes intravenous feed solutions for patients unable to be fed by mouth, cytotoxic products for the treatment of Haematology and Oncology patients as well as a range of antibiotics. We also make one-off products such as liquid medicines and creams if they cannot be bought.
The Medicines Information Service provides medical, pharmaceutical and technical information about the uses medicines to healthcare professionals and members of the public.
