It's time to nominate your healthcare heroes!

Patients, carers and colleagues are being urged to nominate their healthcare heroes for recognition in The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust’s 2020 Proud Awards.

The awards celebrate excellence in healthcare by recognising Rotherham’s exceptional NHS colleagues who pull out all the stops to deliver first class community and hospital services across our borough.

The last few months have seen colleagues work through exception circumstances and pull out all the stops to ensure patients continue to receive the care they need.

Following the tremendous success of last year’s awards, with over 400 nominations received, the Trust is again delighted to invite patients and members of the public to nominate the Trust’s healthcare professionals for a 2020 Public Recognition Award.

The Public Recognition Award, which on average receives over 150 nominations, provides a fantastic opportunity for members of the public to nominate individuals and teams who have made a real difference, provided a high quality service and outstanding care.

Dr Richard Jenkins, Chief Executive of The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are truly thankful for the care that our staff provide each and every day, but it is sometimes easy to overlook the impact individuals and teams can have on a particular patient and their family. We would like to hear about these experiences and give those members of staff the recognition that they deserve.

“Our Proud Awards are going to have to adapt this year in order to follow all the new guidelines as a result of Covid, but it is as important as ever that we celebrate our colleagues and their achievements.”

The winner of the Public Recognition Award in 2019 was Dr Binu Varughese, Gastroenterologist.

In a video message played at last year’s ceremony, Dr Varughese’s nominator said: “I was so fortunate to be a patient of Dr Varughese and my family and I feel so grateful to have met him. He is a real asset to the NHS and Rotherham is so privileged have him at the hospital.

“Thank you for everything Dr Varughese and congratulations for winning this award, it is richly deserved.”

The Trust’s colleagues, eligible to be nominated for awards, deliver services at Rotherham Hospital, Rotherham Community Health Centre, BreathingSpace, Park Rehabilitation Centre and at health centres across the borough, and includes those working in people’s own homes and communities such as school nurses and district nurses.
