The Sterile Services team at Rotherham Hospital provide decontamination and sterilization services for all instruments used in medical and surgical procedures. All instruments are sterilized using the most modern equipment and are subject to:
  • A rigorous validated automated washing and disinfection process
  • Inspecting and packing
  • Steam Sterilization.

All of the processes are monitored and audited and are subject to International and European Standards, giving peace of mind and keeping patients safe. All instrument sets are identified by a specific bar-coded label, which is scanned using hand held terminals for tracking and traceability throughout the decontamination process.

The staffing structure within the Sterile Services Department consists of a Sterile Services Decontamination Manager and Decontamination Quality Manager, five Supervisors, two Training Officers and three Clerical Support Officers. Supported by qualified and trainee Technicians who are trained to NVQ III Standards in Decontamination Practices. The department also has two dedicated qualified Decontamination Engineers who carry out the relevant testing and maintenance on all decontamination equipment in line with the relevant standards.

To find out more information about the service we can provide to you please contact Mr D Harwood, Sterile Services Decontamination Manager. Details on the right.
