Careers Programmes and Work Experience

Welcome to the Work Experience page for The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust. On this page, you can view and apply for all the work experience placements we currently offer.

The purpose of work experience is either to help you understand what it is like to work in an area, or prepare for a university application.

We offer short work experience placements where you will spend time observing the work of the department and those who work there.

Once you are sure which area you would like to experience, please contact that area directly using the details provided. The contact in that area will provide you with an application (so that we can check that you will get the experience you are looking for), and communicate with you to make arrangements for your placement.

If you are over 18, you will need to complete a ‘basic’ DBS check ahead of your placement. This costs £18  and can be accessed here (hyperlink to Request a basic DBS check - GOV.UK (

Please note that the placement areas listed here are the only ones currently available, we regret that placements cannot be arranged on an ‘ad-hoc’ basis for any applicant.

Shared Lives Carers

Rotherham Council is looking for Shared Lives Carers in Rotherham who can provide care, support and accommodation in their own home to adults with additional support needs. This could either be through day care support, respite care or on a long term basis supporting them to live a full and meaningful life with you and your family.

Shared Lives Carers are offered training and support from the Shared Lives team. Shared Lives Carers are self-employed and paid an allowance for the support they provide.
