Established in 2014, the Alcohol Liaison Service supports adults with an alcohol related concern or problem who have recently attended the Urgent and Emergency Care Centre or have been admitted to hospital. The service also sees and assesses patients who are currently under the care of a Specialist Consultant and are attending a clinic.

A team of Specialist Alcohol Nurses are available seven days a week, between the hours of 8am and 8pm and offer comprehensive assessment and advice to help patients address their alcohol use, with safe and realistic options for safer consumption and completing abstinence. Where appropriate, patients are also offered community and telephone support. In addition, the team can advise the family and others concerned in addressing possible problems and refer to agencies that will provide additional support to encourage stability and recovery.

Located in the hospital the team provides training throughout the Trust, to enable healthcare staff to recognise alcohol related problems and carry out screening, brief interventions and referrals to community based alcohol services. TRFT also has a dedicated Liver nurse specialist, who works intensively with patients that have advanced Liver Disease and Blood Borne Viruses. The services work in close collaboration to offer the best possible care options and assist in improving the patient journey.
