HIV, PrEP, PEP, and vaccines

At Rotherham, we have a team of highly experienced and accomplished HIV specialist clinicians, who are passionate and dedicated to managing the care of people living with HIV.

HIV, like most STIs, has no symptoms in its early stages. This is why it is important to get tested regularly and to practice safe sex.

Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)

If you think you have been exposed to HIV, then you may require PEP.

PEP is only effective if taken within 72 hours of exposure. The sooner it is taken the better. If the clinic is not open, PEP is available at the Urgent and Emergency Care Centre.

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) - now available for free

PrEP is a drug taken by HIV-negative people before and after sex that reduces the risk of you getting HIV. It is highly effective at preventing HIV.

At the clinic, we will be happy to discuss with you if you need PrEP, prescribe it for free, and support you to use the treatment safely and provide the necessary monitoring.

Vaccinations

In sexual health, we believe prevention is better than cure and offer vaccination to groups thought to be at higher risk to prevent infection.

Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to prevent diseases, they protect a person from infection for several years.

We offer three different vaccinations:

Hepatitis B – for men who have sex with men (MSM) and people that have had more than 10 sexual partners in 12 months

Hepatitis A – for MSM

HPV – for MSM, trans men and trans women up to the ages of 45.
