Gynaecology

What is Gynaecology?

Gynaecology is the treatment of conditions of the female reproductive system and fertility and some early pregnancy conditions, also we treat conditions in women of all ages and undertake investigations for a wide range of female specific problems.

We also offer a Pregnancy Advisory Centre and Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit, both of which you can refer yourself directly to.

Where is our gynaecology ward?

Our main gynaecology ward is B11; we also treat women with early pregnancy conditions and women needing breast surgery on this ward.

Surgery and Gynaecology

We have planned surgery lists every week day, all of our surgery takes place in the hospital's main theatres.

Elective patients usually go straight to the Theatre Admissions Unit before surgery. You’ll come to our ward once your surgery is over for your post-operative care.

Gynaecology outpatient clinics

Our gynaecology outpatients team work closely with the ward team on B11. Our clinics are held in Greenoaks, which has moved to a new location opposite the Urgent and Emergency Care Centre (UECC). A map to the new location can be found here.

Clinics are held Monday to Friday and include;

  • Colposcopy
  • General gynaecology
  • Infertility service
  • Urogynaecology clinic
  • Psychosexual clinics
  • Pre-conceptual
  • Endocrine
  • Perineal trauma
  • Urodynamics

There is also a nurse specialist in cancer care who can give you information in psychological and social support.

You’ll be referred to one of our clinics by your GP, or as a follow-up after you’ve been admitted previously. Our team of doctors includes, consultants, registrar and senior house officers. If you come to one of our outpatient clinics, you’ll be seen in a private consultation room where we’ll discuss your problem and you may be examined. A nurse is on hand to act as a chaperone while you are being examined. Your consultant will then advise you on your next plan of care.

We also offer clinics at GP practices and have nurse-led clinics in urogynae, infertility, pessary changes, analogue and sterilization.
