The Pre-Admission Centre is a team of
Nurse Practitioners who offer pre-operative assessment to patients before their
planned surgery. This assessment is to
ensure that the patient is fit for surgery and that any information that is
needed is given before the admission day of the operation.
The administration team provides support to the nursing team and ensures patients are offered operation dates for their surgery.
What happens if I need surgery?
If your consultant decides that you need surgery you’ll need a pre-admission appointment. This can be either straight after seeing your consultant or you can make an appointment for a later date. At this appointment,
you
will have some baseline observations taken and in some cases blood tests. You
will then see a nurse who will go through a series of questions to assess your
current health and your fitness for surgery.
In some cases other investigations may be required.
The following specialties are managed
within this team:
Gynaecology and paediatrics assessments are also part of this team, however the pre-operative assessment
takes place on their own ward areas.
