In celebration of this year’s Nutrition and Hydration Week, staff members on Ward A2 will encourage patients to embark on an exciting journey of physical activity and progress while staying at the hospital.
The centrepiece of this initiative is the Innerva Cross Cycle machine, a motorised exercise device designed to engage patients in whole-body workouts regardless of their mobility limitations.
Patients with sitting balance who can support their head whilst following straightforward verbal or video instructions are eligible to participate in this programme.
“The pilot of the Innerva Cross Cycle machine is another step forward in our commitment to providing comprehensive care and support to our patients,” said Cindy Storer, Deputy Chief Nurse at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust. “This initiative not only aims to prevent deconditioning during hospital stays but also supports patients in their journey towards reconditioning and rehabilitation.”
Throughout this year’s Nutrition and Hydration Week, patients on Ward A2 will receive the opportunity to utilise the Innerva Cross Cycle machine as part of their therapy sessions. The total number of miles covered will be recorded and tallied to see how far they have collectively travelled across Rotherham, fostering a sense of accomplishment and community spirit among patients.
“By integrating this technology into our rehabilitation programme, we are empowering our patients to take an active role in their recovery process and achieve their mobility goals”, added Cindy Storer.
The use of the Innerva Cross Cycle machine exemplifies the Trust’s ongoing commitment to providing person-centred care and promoting the holistic wellbeing of our patients. Through initiatives like 'Race across Rotherham’, The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust will continue to strive for excellence in patient-centred care and rehabilitation.
