In memory giving

Donating to Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity in memory of someone you love is a very special way to celebrate their life, to give something back to the NHS who cared for them and change the future for other patients and families from Rotherham and beyond.

We’re so grateful you are thinking about honouring someone who meant a lot to you by supporting our Purple Butterfly In Memory Giving.

Funeral collections

The difference your loved one made in the world can become even greater if you take a collection for the charity at their funeral or memorial service. We’ll use the donations to enhance the care we provide at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust for our patients.

Snowdrop memory tree

Show your love with a leaf on our memory tree

The Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity’s memory tree is a meaningful way to remember and celebrate the life of a loved one, while also donating to your local NHS charity.
Our tree is located in the Snowdrop memorial garden at Rotherham Hospital and can be adorned with 250 beautiful gold leaves, creating a poignant work of art.

How much does it cost?

Each leaf costs £100 and can be engraved with the name of your loved one and a short message.
All the leaves will remain on the tree for a minimum of three years. After that period, you will be offered the chance to donate again to keep your leaf on the tree. Alternatively, the leaf can be sent to you as a keepsake.

How does it work?

The plaques are available in four shapes: Oak, Heart, Curved and Maple.
All plaques will be gold with white text.
There is room for up to four lines of text (the font is similar to Arial, sized 3mm, and is easy to read)
All leaves will be engraved by the team at Finch Tree, who created our lovely memory tree, and sent directly to the charity. All plaques will be installed by the Trust’s estates team.

Fundraise for them

We have a host of amazing challenges which you could take part in to commemorate a loved one, or you could organise your own event. You could run a marathon, arrange a memory walk, bake sale, a raffle or host a music event – whatever would honour the memory of your loved one the most. We will support your fundraising every step of the way.

Give in their memory

You can remember someone special by donating to the charity in their name. We’d love to hear their story and what giving in their memory means to you and your family.  Donations can be made in person at the new Charity Hub in main entrance at Rotherham Hospital – we’re based opposite Boots. Alternatively, donations can be made via Just Giving, cheque or bank transfer.

Leave a legacy

Patients and their relatives often show their appreciation for the care they have received at their local hospital by choosing to make a bequest in their Will.

Legacies can have a major impact on charities and we are really grateful to anyone who recognises the Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity in this way. The charity has received £127k in legacies over the last five years.

Your solicitor can advise you about the most appropriate way to leave a legacy in your Will.

We would advise that you mention the following information in your will:

  • Name of Charity: The Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity
  • Registered charity number: 1054407
  • Address: Company Secretary, Management Corridor, Level D, The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, Moorgate Road, Rotherham, S60 2UD
  • State if you wish your legacy to be donated to the charity as a whole, the Purple Butterfly Appeal or Dr Ted’s Children’s Appeal

State the amount that you wish to leave as a donation e.g. a specific financial amount or a percentage of your estate. Alternatively, visit https://www.rememberacharity.org.uk/ for more information.
