Welcome to Patient Hub, our new
initiative to give patients more control of their appointments.
Patient Hub prompts patients, via text message or email, to access a
secure online portal using key details such as their phone number, email
address and date of birth. Using a unique six-digit code, they can confirm,
rebook or cancel hospital appointments and access any important information
such as pre-op guidance or hospital maps.
The system notifies the Trust if patients have not accessed this
information within 48 hours of being prompted. At this point a traditional
appointment letter will be posted to the patient.
Gynaecology are the first department to start using Patient Hub, but the
system will be rolled out to other specialities in the coming months.
Patients are asked to make sure we have the most up to date contact
details (mobile phone number and/or email address) in order for them to be
contacted via Patient Hub.
If you receive an email or text notification
from Patient Hub, please login as soon as possible (within 24 hours) to avoid
getting further notifications and save us sending you a letter in the post. When you
have logged in, please accept the appointment and view your letter and any
additional information. Once the appointment is ‘accepted’ you will still be
able to request a rebooking or cancellation.
Giving patients access to appointment letters online has huge
benefits. Paper appointment letters are easily mislaid, which sometimes leads
to patients arriving for appointments at the wrong time or even missing their
consultations. Having this information easily accessible via Patient Hub means
appointments can be added to electronic diaries – no more missed appointments.
By reducing
the printing and postage of paper letters, the Trust not only saves money, time
and resources, but will take a step closer to achieving its goal to become
greener as per Sir Simon Stevens ‘Net Zero’ challenge for the NHS.
