Golfers got into the swing of things at a joint fundraising event hosted by two leading Rotherham health charities.
Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity and Rotherham Cancer Care teamed up to host the Charity Golf Day at Rotherham Golf Club for 16 competitive teams. The event, sponsored by Apex Consulting Engineers, raised £3,400.
Paul Bottomley, Martin Lumb, Paul Gould and Paul Howard from team Hallows 2 were crowned the victorious winners alongside two teams from DPD who battled it out in the bunkers for second and third places.
Rachael Dawes, Head of Fundraising at Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity, said: “Our first Charity Golf Day was incredible! We were thrilled to have so many teams take part at one of the region’s most prestigious golf clubs.
“There was lots of comradery amongst everyone who took part and it was wonderful to see them have such a good time while supporting our charities. The rain showers didn’t even dampen everyone’s spirits. We enjoyed the beautiful course and it was a great opportunity to network with other businesses too.
“We can’t thank everyone enough for their generosity – every penny will make a massive difference to our new Tiny Toes appeal, which aims to raise £150,000 for our Neonatal Unit at Rotherham Hospital.
“We’re already busy planning next year’s event. It will be an annual event we hope to grow every year and would love to see more teams taking part.”
The event began with breakfast, sponsored by technology supplier Softcat, followed by a shotgun start where all teams hit the green together. There were additional ‘nearest the pin’ and ‘longest drive’ competitions to fuel the competitive spirit.
Once teams had battled it out for the top honours, they enjoyed a two-course dinner, a silent auction and raffle.
Participants received goody bags sponsored by Unison Rotherham Health and the Harworth Group, including goodies from Beerpig and Chantry Brewery.
They also had the opportunity to view Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity’s video showcasing the Tiny Toes appeal.
Steve Burns, Chairman and Trustee at Rotherham Cancer Care, added: “We challenged everyone to come and see if they were on a par with their boss or work mates and it was great to see so many businesses club together for two local charities. We’re so grateful to everyone who came along, generously paid for raffle tickets, bid on the auction or sponsored the event to help make the funds we raised go further.”
Keen golfers are being urged to take part in the event again next year on 20 September 2024.
It will cost £260 per four ball. Seasoned golfers and amateurs are welcome to enter and participants will be treated to breakfast and a two-course post-match meal.
