Helping children and young people in Rotherham get healthy

Information for parents or carers
Children and Young People's Health Services

Being overweight is bad for your child’s health now and in the future. Overweight children are much more likely to become overweight adults, putting them at increased risk of a range of health problems; including high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke.

A healthy weight is different at different ages; please see the healthy BMI information that your healthcare professional will have provided you.

The best thing to do to support a child or young person to get to a healthy weight is to encourage any form of exercise, and to make healthier food choices.

Support

We have collected some useful resources that may help you to support your child and family. Which of these activities do you think you / your child would enjoy? If you don’t try it you will never know!

The NHS website offers lots of good advice, and you can find healthy family meal ideas with the Change4Life Smart Recipes App.

Children need at least 60 minutes of exercise on average per day
