Become a volunteer

Volunteers are a valuable part of our team. Working as a volunteer can give you new skills, you can find out about health care, meet new people and contribute to the community.

We recruit volunteers to work in clinical and non-clinical areas, to support and enhance the experience of our patients and visitors. These include:

- Mealtimes on wards
- Library trolley service
- Outpatient clinics
- Chaplaincy
- Pharmacy
- Main entrance greeters
- Macmillan cancer and health information support

Our application process includes:
• Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB) clearance
• Occupational Health clearance
• Two character references
• Attendance at a one day induction

Midwifery Experience
Our volunteers are placed in areas where they can make the most difference.
As Maternity patients generally have a low need for the support that volunteers are able to provide, roles are not available in this area.

Work Shadowing and Work Experience
Requests for work shadowing or work experience placements should be made directly to individual departments, as this is not part of the Volunteer Service.
