General Surgery covers all surgery from the neck down which is not covered by a specialist department such as Ear, Nose and Throat or Gynaecology. However, our surgeons do specialise and offer expertise in their chosen area.
The General Surgery and Urology department provides the full range of services including breast, vascular, intestinal operations and urology, and in line with national policy the department meets the two-week waiting time targets for suspected breast, gastro-intestinal and urological cancers.

General Surgery has a number of adult and children's beds across the Rotherham Hospital site. Same day surgery for some varicose vein, hernia and breast operations is carried out through the Day Surgery centre on Level B of the main hospital. The Endoscopy Unit, which is also on Level B, is used in the detection of cancers.
Urology
The Urology service deals with problems of the bladder, kidney and prostate and has an outpatient department which is on level A and has one inpatient ward. We also run a male andrology / erectile dysfunction clinic. See our Urology webpages for more information.
Breast Care Services
We have some colleagues who specialise in breast operations. For more information, please see our Breast Care Services webpage.
